I teach a functional form of yoga, where movements and postures encourage more comfort and ease through the whole body. You can develop strength, muscle tone and greater flexibility, but that’s a generous by-product of a nourishing yoga practice, with the emphasis on finding more comfort in the joints and more fluid movement. There will be gentle postures, some flowing sequences, breathing techniques and relaxation in each class.
Feeling more comfortable within ourselves and the ability to notice where we hold on to tensions is a lot more important than striking a pose, I encourage people to back away from pushing themselves towards making shapes that their bodies aren’t ready for and instead to find ways of expressing a posture that is appropriate for their body and as a consequence, all my classes are suitable for people stepping onto a yoga mat for the first time.
