Traeth Mawr is the larger of the two beaches in Cemaes, and boasts plenty of sand at low tide together with beautiful coloured rocks and pebbles. The beach is also home to the Cemaes Time and Tide Bell, and has parking, a wheelchair friendly promenade with lots of benches, and a slipway for launching and recovering small boats.
Traeth Mawr has something for everyone – a beach cafe serving ice cream, bacon butties and drinks during the season, a large car park, public toilets, a wide level promenade suitable for buggies, wheelchairs and mobility scooters, plentiful benches and at the far end, picnic tables.
At low tide you can race across the wide expanse of sand, explore the caves and coves along the cliffs and play ball games. There is a free slipway at the far end of the beach in the second car park, but please respect the speed limit within the bay and beware of swimmers and kayakers if you are using a speedboat or jetski.
Please observe the seasonal restrictions regarding dogs on the beach. There is a small charge of £4/day for the car parks from Easter until the end of summer. Please pay at beach kiosk in main car park. Please note that overnight camping is not allowed anymore.
Dogs are banned from the two thirds of Traeth Mawr nearest to the village from 1st May to 30th September. Dogs must always be kept on a lead on the promenade.
Boats can be launched and recovered using the slipway situated by Traeth Mawr Far Car Park, at the east end of the beach. Please note that road access is via Llanbadrig not the main village.
All boats must observe the speed limit of 8 knots within the bay.
